BLACK LIVES MATTER MOVEMENT GLOBAL LICENSING PROGRAMME
BACKGROUND
In the wake of the brutal killing of George Floyd the world is finally willing to really listen and implement systematic change as part of this world open conversation and education. Black Lives Matter is a social justice movement, the movement born out of the systematic racism and police brutality.
The movement has been around among black communities for a very long time. There are organisations such as our official partner https://blacklivesmatter.uk/who are key source of information and there are other organisations who are the key protester networks who organised these global protests. The protest networks are locally organised by separate young activists who are not necessarily linked with https://blacklivesmatter.uk/
To put more to perspective, and just to share more insights to the industry, you may recall the Blackout Tuesday movement back in June www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackout_Tuesday
That movement was created by two black women from the music industry in London which went viral on social media.
All these are the initiatives that put the Black Lives Message in the world stage.
British Vogue September issue www.vogue.co.uk/news/article/activists-british-vogue-september-2020 Vogue Arabia www.en.vogue.me/tags/black-lives-matter and Vanity Fair September issue have done the same www.vanityfair.com/culture/2020/08/amy-sherald-on-making-breonna-taylors-cover-portrait. These magazines are using their platform to drive the movement forward.
OUR MISSION
The licensing Programme is set to be a collective space for the Licensing Industry to move the movement forward to implement the change collectively. We will be coordinating the industry initiatives from Licensors, Licensees and Retailers and ensure a percentage of sales are collected through BLMLightfund and distributed to BLM project. Additionally, BLACKLIVESMATTER.UK & BLACK LICENSING MATTER LICENSING mission is set to benefit black lives and to deter unlicensed, unethical merchants, retailers making money of the back of ‘black lives matter’ with care for, any giving back to uplift black lives or social action to declare their anti-racist or to help to eradicate racism.
Now is time that we, the Licensing Industry take the movement forward through consumer products.

OUR RESPONSE
A spokesperson for Black Lives Matter UK said: “Taking a knee is not a political statement or showing support for any political group. It’s becoming exhausting have to repeat over and over again what many already know but choose to ignore.”
They suggested that attempts to paint the entire BLM movement as politically motivated were a deliberate attempt to undermine the group’s anti-racist goals. They said: “A significant number of people with motives of derailment have continually attempted to conflate the political BLM organisations [in the] US, and a small UK social media group affiliated to BLM USA, with the entire Black Lives Matter movement by insisting Black Lives Matter is a political concern when in fact it is fundamentally a human rights social movement that has taken hold to create change we all need.”
